Hello,

In order to secure a visa for dependent partner (wife/husband) there is a Financial Requirement £18,600.

Is it compulsory to show 6 months payslips ?

What if someone exceeds earning of £18,600 in 2 months ? Do they still need to wait six months for six payslips?

Yes, you need to show 6 recent playslips from same employer to go to category a, else you can go to category b where you take average of your 1 year earnings. Was your parter working throughout the year, as you need to show 1 year employment with average 18600 or above.
This is what I think as I am going to apply in Sep this year, my wife is working full time for 3 months now at 19000 average.

Means you earned £18600/2= £9300 a month.

Is it self employed or family business.

UPDATE: I am confident you can through cat b,
Part 1- Current job pays more than 18600.
Part 2- 1 year earning more than 18600.

They payslips doesn't even need to be from same employer, As far as I am aware. However, the sponsor MUST BE be STILL employed with the latest employer. (it cant be the case of earning the threshold and then being on a gap or unemployment until the visa is secured)

Moral of the story, UKVI requires EARNED gross income of 18,600 and a job that pays more than 18600, not six payslips, it can be less than that.

Yes, you're right under Cat B and good to apply right away.
but under Cat A you need to be with current employer for at least 6 months with 9300 average for those 6 months, if more than 1 jobs, all jobs must be at least 6 months old and average combined earning is 9300. Cat A does not apply to you but just for information. Cheers

I am a British citizen, I am currently living and working in the UK.My Fiancee is an Indian citizen, living and working in India.

She wishes to join me in the UK and then we will be getting married in the UK.

I have a query regarding financial requirement for partner visa.

I have started a new job on 21st May 2018 with a well known employer in London, which pays gross salary of GBP 51,900 annually. This is a permanent position.

Before starting this particular job, I was not working in last the 12 months.

My gross salary for May 2018 was GBP 1535. (because I started working on 21st May and so salary was paid in proportion of that)

My gross salary for the months of Jun, July, Aug & Sep 2018 would be GBP 4325 for each month.

So, my gross salary by end of September would be GBP 18835 (i.e. GBP 1535 for May 2018 + GBP 4325 x next 4 months = GBP 18835)

My total earned gross salary, by end of September 2018 would be more than the required threshold of GBP 18,600.

(If my Fiancee applies for visa in first week of October, I would NOT have finished 6 months of employment with the current employment. I would only be completing 6 months employment with his employer on 21st November 2018.)

I have following specific questions here.

A) Since I would have earned total gross salary of GBP 18835, which would be more than the threashold of GBP 18,600 , can she apply for her visa in First week of October with those payslips (assuming all the other conditions like English language and accommodation are met) ?

B) Do we need to wait until 21st of November for him to finish 6 months of employment with my current employer (even after earning GBP 18600 with the current employer) ?

C) In my circumstances, what is the earliest date she can apply for her visa (considering my income) ?

D) In my case, to meet the financial requirement, do case worker require me to have finished 6 months of employment & earned 18,600 OR
do they want me to earn have earned gross income of 18,600 even if that was earned in less than 6 months is fine ?

It is mandatory to submit 6 months payslips and 6 months corresponding bank statements, regardless if you meet the requirement in Month 2,4 or 5 with total earnings.

If you apply and submit only 5 months evidence, you risk a refusal.

Since I started working on 21st May, can I count May 2018 as month number one ?

If so, May>Jun>July->Aug>Sep>Oct and we can apply in first week of November. Does that sound correct ?

Hi All,

I gathered from the forum that "A property inspection report is only required when the house has multiple occupants."

In my 2 bedroom rented apartment, I live in one bedroom and my unmarried sister (age 26- biological sister, not cousin) lives in another. My partner will be applying for dependant visa.

The tenancy agreement is in joint names (me and sister both) and I will get a letter from letting agency that they do not have any problem with my partner joining later.

Would my housing situation be considered as "multiple occupancy" and require a house inspection report ?

We are members of the same family, not a shared household where unknown people live / share a house /Spam.

The inspection reports aren't cheap (upwards of £200).

I don't want to pay for something if its not required in the first place.

I am keen to know what moderator thinks on this. Thanks.

Housing Inspection is recommended as it clarifies free space etc for the ECO. Since you live with adult who are same family then it is not required strictly but still recommended to be on the safe side.

Going cheap on £200 and having to go through an appeal and re-application will be upwards of 10x the £200.

Choice is yours - wait for a mod to reply.

I agree with what you said about reapplying. Nobody want to do that. However, we should not be spending money out of fear of rejection.

The guideline from UKVI has to be clear enough, so that we dont have to get paperwork which may not even be required!

Hi All,

Good few years ago (5+ yrs) I had sponsored my spouse (now ex) for dependant visa. I was on Tier 1 (General) visa at that time, and now I am BC.

Unfortunately that marriage did not work and we started living separately within few months. We were separate but NOT divorced.

My EX approached court asking for maintenance and it was granted. I regularly started paying maintenance amount and kept paying every month for few years.

When it was clear that its best to go separate ways, divorce was granted and then on my solicitor’s advice, I stopped paying maintenance.

I had informed home office after separation and also after divorce about our circumstances.


I have now met someone and thinking of sponsoring them as a UK citizen.


I meet all other requirements (financial housing etc) and while going through the document, I came to know about refusal ground paragraph 322 (6) which says.

This relates to general grounds for refusal under paragraph 322(6) of the rules. If the sponsor has previously given written confirmation but then did not support the applicant, you may also refuse the application under paragraph 322(6).

I have never missed a single payment of maintenance however I may have signed a document of undertaking many years ago for my ex, would that come haunting now and cause problems this time ?

Very messy and confusing letter. It should be short and simple like:

I confirm that nemo999 has been employed with Tesco Ltd since March 2015 as a team member.

Nemo receives an salaried annual pay of £18,900. He has been at this level of salary from March 2018.

I can confirm that the following 6 Payslips issued to nemo are genuine, and I sign and stamp them to verify their authenticity.

1 - June 2018 - Amount: £1,600 Processed: 28 June 2018
2 - July 2018 - Amount: £1,600 Processed: 30 July 2018

My partner applied for a settlement visa.

We were redirected to the pay immigration health surcharge, which we paid online.

When we received email confirmation of IHS payment, we realised that the IHS payment does not have partner's middle name.

Whereas on the visa application form, name is present in full , including middle name.

Would this cause any issues?

What to do in this situation? Please suggest. Thanks
