Eligibility criteria: 5 years residence, non-EEA spouse of EEA/naturalised British citizen
Language criteria met: Life in the UK and CPE
Method of application: self/postal
Date of application: 07/01/2014
Payment method: credit card
Date of receipt by UKBA: 08/01/2014 (Royal Mail Tracking)
Date of acknowledgment: 28/01/2014 (dated 25/01/2014)
Date of debit or clearance of fees: 25/01/2014
Date approval and documents received: 05/04/2014 (dated 03/04/2014)
Date of ceremony: to be organised

I received a special delivery with my documents and approval letter this morning!!! Still waiting for the ceremony invitation letter.

I guess it took slightly longer than average in my case because I applied without NCS and without an EEA PR card (EEA4 application). But it worked out and I believe it was faster in the end than first applying for a PR card and then for BC.

I requested my passport back for travel more than 3 weeks ago and was getting slightly nervous as the HO was not gettting back to me. I contacted the HO using the tel. number and email address people posted on this forum (many thanks to everyone!).
On Tuesday I called 0300 123 2253 (got through after 20min) and was told my case is with the case worker and they would put a note that I need my passport back for travel.
On Thursday I received a reply email from ‪FurtherNationalityEnquiries@homeoffice.gsi.gov.uk‬ (after 4 working days) saying that a decision has been made recently and a letter posted on April 3.

It seems that the HO has improved their customer service recently. I certainly found the latest correspondence with them much more informative than before.

I wish the best of luck to everyone still waiting for their approval letters!!!

Last time I called was last week, they are saying the same thing, with caseworking team and in progress.

You have to try quite a few times just to get onto the line, but when you do it's around 5-10 minute wait

Unfortunately still waiting.
Had applied on 28th Jan through NCS Barnet but have not received ok.

Only potential complication I can see is that the start of the residency period was under a student visa (rather than a spouse visa). Otherwise days in/out of the UK and other requirements should have been met.

You can see my earlier post requesting advice on whether I can apply under the student visa.

Hope I get a positive outcome!

January 2014 Applications Update
I have excluded the following applicants since date of receipt of one's application by the UKBA is the effective application date (if I am incorrect, please let me know, as I am merely going by the timelines posted):
  • tamara26 - a February 2014 applicant
grizli - another February 2014 applicant

Here are the 142 applicants so far, please let me know of any errors or omissions (pending applications highlighted in red, hyperlinks to past approvals):

General progress so far for January 2014:

To all January 2014 applicants - please try and keep your timelines updated and accurate as it benefits the topic and others when you do so. Relevant update posts (like this one) in my signature to make them easy to track.

As always, thanks to amthekkel, p2kin, jotter, TTOE and tier_2_applicant for their data and formats.

Application is only for me, tried to call yesterday and they just said it's in process. I really don't know why it's taking so long, they said a caseworker has not looked at it yet.

Incidentally, I also called yesterday and got the answer: in process. Simple application. No complication at all.

Do they ask for reference? Do they go to referee?

I believe that they can go to your referee and ask them how they know us, why do you ask?

As I am late in getting approval, several questions come to mind. If they go for reference this might take extra time.

Yes I've been asking myself a lot of questions also. If it helps, I have gone to both of my referees and none have received a call from the UKBA.
